No need for take 2
As he has said countless times as an Illinois state senator, U.S. senator, candidate for the democratic nomination for President, and, finally, as the presumptive democratic nominee for President, Obama is against the war in Iraq and will remove U.S. troops from combat if he is elected. It doesn’t matter whether he will remove troops in 16 months, 2 years, or 2 days, the point is that there will be a withdrawal and an ill-conceived war, which has been characterized by mistakes such as Bush’s infamous “Mission Accomplished” disaster, will come to an end. Regardless of what skeptics in this CNN article suggest, Obama is the only candidate offering to end the war and subsequently bring an end to 8 years of foreign policy missteps that have left the U.S. with as little international political capital as Zimbabwe.
Take this to the bank right now – if Obama and the democrats are smart (and persistent) they will not let anything but the war in Iraq decide who is elected President come November. Luckily for all Americans, and the rest of us, Obama and his team are about as bright as they come.
